One of the most visited countries of the world, Switzerland is not the darling of tourists for nothing. With stunning views of the Alps and rejuvenating sounds of the color changing streams rush by, it never ceases to impress you. Its a country you will certainly not visit just once. I went to Switzerland way back in 2006 and have been longing to go back ever since. And unlike last time when I hit the touristy circuit, I would definitely go for the more off beaten beauty of this wonderland. I have put together some of the choicest shots from that short sojourn in the Summer of 2006 tripping right through the heart of Switzerland.

My Route

Zurich -> Mt Titlis ->  Interlaken -> Jungfrau -> Mt Pilatus -> Lucerne -> Zurich

At the top of Mt Titlis. I will admit that I was scared shit here after the ride on the rotating gondola and the open cable chairs that take you to Mt Titlis. Its not called fear of heights for nothing

I don’t even remember where this was. Because when you are in Switzerland this pretty much becomes the new normal

Some more of the new normal. On my way to Interlaken

I had made Interlaken my base to visit the Jungfraujoch, the highest peak in Europe at 3454 above MSL. I was waiting for the bus at the stop just outside my hotel and finally when the bus arrived I realised I was actually waiting on the wrong side. Unlike the UK, where I had flown in from and India which is where I belong, Switzerland was actually a Right Hand driving nation as is most of Europe. That was my first brush with the vagaries of road rules and the subtle remnants of our colonial past.

The Lion Monument in Lucerne. It was built in 1820 to commemorate the Swiss Guards who were massacred in 1792 during the French Revolution, when revolutionaries stormed the Tuileries Palace in Paris.

The greatest learnings of all are in the pages of a book and the by-lanes of an unexplored city. That is what I live by. And that is what I truly live on too, barring that fact that I also juggle a full-time-high-stress job.

I started this blog to reach out to all of those who think working in a cubicle 10 hrs a day disinherits you from the love of life. You can still travel as much as you want to.
